Assam Pragyan Bharati Scheme 2026: Dr. Bani Kanta Kakati Merit Award (Free Scooty)

The Higher Education Department under the Government of Assam has announced the distribution of the Dr. Bani Kanta Kakati Merit Award under the Pragyan Bharati Scheme for the year 2026. This initiative aims to encourage academic excellence and enhance student mobility across the state. Under this merit-based program, students who achieved 80% or higher in the Higher Secondary (HS) Final Examination 2026 conducted by the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) are eligible to receive a free petrol or electric-driven scooter. The state government covers the complete cost, including registration, insurance, and a mandatory protective helmet, ensuring students face no financial burden during pickup.

To avail of this award, applicants must be domicile residents of Assam, though students enrolled in out-of-state institutions remain eligible if they possess a valid Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC). Students under the betterment or reappearance categories will not be considered. Eligible candidates must complete their online registration on the official web portal between July 29, 2026, and August 21, 2026. Applicants should note that as per the latest state budget, this will be the final academic session for scooter distribution, as funds will subsequently be redirected to broaden other youth benefit schemes like Nijut Moina.
